CHANDIGARH: 'Ghagri' ke peeche kya hai' It's the resolve of over 50 khaps of the region to adopt Gandhigiri to fight for reservation in government jobs for Jats.
And it is black 'ghagris' (women's skirts) that are going to be hung along the route of the Queen's Baton Relay to highlight the Jats' resentment over the Centre's failure to grant the community reservation under OBC category.

Khap leaders, who met at Gohana in Sonepat on Sunday, decided not to resort to violent means to get the OBC status for Jats. Instead, they decided that Gandhigiri would be better and it would also save general public from facing inconvenience.
Om Parkash Dhankar, president of Dhankhar khap said, "As a symbolic protest, we may ask our activists to put up black 'ghagris' on trees along the route of Baton Relay."
Showing black ghagris to someone, especially political leaders, has been a way of protesting in Haryana since long.
Some other khap members, however, have decided to stick to the traditional symbolic protest. "Our activists will sport black badges to highlight our resentment," added a khap leader.
Ghathwala khap president Baljeet Singh Malik, who presided over the Sunday meet, said, "We have resolved that our agitation should not become a problem for others."
Baljeet Singh, who is heading the khap of Jats' biggest gotra — Malik, also disclosed that the khaps won't launch a separate agitation on the quota issue. The khaps would, primarily, back the agitating organizations, he said.
